Under the new environment of copper supply and demand, the current situation of the scrap copper rod industry is analyzed.

In recent years, the scrap copper import policy has become increasingly stringent

In recent years, the import policy of scrap copper has become increasingly strict. After the import of seven types of scrap copper was banned in 2018 and the import of six types of scrap copper was changed to restricted import in 2019, China's import of scrap copper also decreased from 3.558 million tons in 2017 to 1.496 million tons in 2018. On December 31, 2019, the standard rules for recycled brass raw materials and recycled copper raw materials were published, and the standards have detailed provisions on the copper content, metal recovery rate and inclusion content of recycled copper raw materials. After the formal implementation of the standard on July 1, 2020, enterprises can import raw materials in two ways. By the end of 2020, the import of solid waste will be prohibited, and high-quality copper scrap that meets the new standard will be imported into China as raw material products under the names of "recycled copper raw materials" and "recycled brass raw materials. At that time, the definition of "scrap copper" will disappear, and "recycled copper" will be on the stage of history. Recycled copper defined as raw materials will not be managed according to solid waste, but will be included in the scope of general raw material import management to ensure that high quality metal raw materials can enter the domestic market to make up for the shortage of metal resources in China.
